10 Week Old Puppy Training

Filed under: Training — klewis @ 7:19 pm

Puppies are like sponges, soaking up all the training you give them.  When they’re young they look to you for everything… how they should react in a new uncertain situation, how they should act around the house, what gets them attention, and what is not acceptable behavior.

Our youngest puppy here and newest “breeding hopeful” is Saffron (aka purple girl :) ). She’s 10 weeks old as are all her litter mates who recently went off to their new families. All of the puppies will be learning all sorts of new things and continuing training with their new families.  I thought it would be fun to post about things she’s learning now and then so all of her litter mate’s families can follow along and also post what their puppies are learning!

Today we worked on reinforcing “sit” and “down” (both commands Saffron knows quite well) and then for new things, we practiced leash walking, and “shake”. She did quite well with both of those things and after a couple sessions (a short session in the morning, and another one in the afternoon) she started doing “shake” when asked!

What neat things are your puppies learning/working on?
